a little video of our life in the range

1.27.2015

life in the range. amazing. i tried talking about our experiences in the range last october (HERE) and the other day (HERE) but it doesn't do it justice. i tried writing but nothing comes out. or nothing sounding too great. thankfully chad and his creative self created a lovely video highlighting some great parts of our trip and all of the fun we had.

have you ever gone on a cross country road trip? what was your favorite part or your favorite route? we are taking recommendations so we can start planning the next big venture! (hoping for a trip down the west coast, starting in Seattle!)

another year older, another year wiser?

6.05.2014

it was my birthday a few weeks ago and it was a good one. the majority of the day, or let's say the week was spent outdoors, going on long walks, exploring cute parts of minnesota, and yummy yummy treats. the sun was shining and chad got me my favorite chocolate cake from wuollet bakery (and because i loved it so much,  i am thinking that i should get it for chad's birthday too, i mean who wouldn't want a delicious cake from wullots for their birthday?!)... because we take birthdays pretty seriously, we celebrated, not just saying "birthday weekend" but hardcore celebrated all weekend long. luckily for me, it was memorial day weekend, meaning there was an extra day to celebrate, hooray!

each year that birthday sneaks around what seems to be faster and faster. how am i another year older? i see more wrinkles. i at times feel more tired. i feel slightly more wiser, or i like to think so. but i love seeing how i've grown. so much happens in a year. this past year was a year of self discovery. up until this point i felt like i had it all together, i thought i knew what i liked, i was married, i thought i was "done" growing. but... you know, that is never true.

but i have to say, i love taking time to see what has developed over the past year.

things i learned:
that i really, really love cooking. in every aspect. this past year of my life i cooked more then i ever had before, i read more about it, i learned new techniques. i now can say that instead of thinking i can cook, i know i actually can cook. and chad will testify to this ;)

plants make me happy. starting my little garden has brought me such joy. i have started to try and focus on finding little things that make me happy, and not people. not that people are bad, and that don't bring you joy. but i think as humans we become so dependent on relying on others to make us feel good, when indeed it is up to ourselves to determine our happiness. what makes you tick? what makes you feel good? i never really put focus on this until this year and it truly is liberating. why did i never explore the things that brought me joy? why did i think my happiness was contingent on someone else. either way, this is a growing area for me and one that i will continue to explore in this next year of my life. and to say the least, plants make me happy, and i know this. and i am going to continue to find things that bring me joy.

i am more of an introvert then i thought. i never thought i was an introvert. and then i got busier. and then i would continue to fill my time with things and people, never allowing myself to have a break. and then, in january, i reached a breaking point. i realized that i did not focus on myself. i thought i loved being with people (and i really do), but, that i truly needed alone time to function and to give me rest. i was running out of energy, and had little to give. with that, i learned, hey, i thought i was an extrovert for so many years, and not that i am not an extrovert now ( i am for sure), but i do need alone time to function and will have no energy if i don't allow myself any.

television is boring books are more fun (not a big surprise)

sitting at an office for 8 hours is tough. i worked as a nanny full time for two years, and last march i have changed fields and now am working in a desk. granted, this job may be more of a resume builder, but man is it tough sitting at a desk. hey, it is a learning experience isn't it?

so here is my little rant about growing up. this adulthood stuff throws me off all. the. time.

i think i got it all figured it out,and then i go through a tough spot. i learn more about who i am. but each year, i look back on my year of self discovery and am proud of how i have come.

do you do a little self discovery on your birthday? what age do you wish you could rewind to?

three for the weekend !

12.09.2013

a few things about this weekend:

1. the start of the weekend was slightly stressful with my final paper due at 11:59 pm saturday evening. the entire work week i hardly slept (thanks finals week!) with me literally waking up at five am every day. i got off work friday afternoon and all i wanted to do is cuddle up in my nice comfy be. the "worst part" was chad got off work early on friday and he decided to take a short nap. somehow, i gathered enough self control and continued to work on my paper. with no nap. however, because i resisted the desire to nap, i finished my paper early on saturday afternoon.

2. it was chad's grandmas 91th birthday on saturday. i think she is the cutest lady and i hope that i can live to 91. imagine the stories and life experience you have after 91 years. truly inspiring.

3. the weather in minnesota was frigid the entire weekend. so cold that i, the extrovert that i am, did not want to leave the house. i really wanted to have some type of celebration for finishing another semester of graduate school but i kept looking at that thermostat and decided the partying could wait until the temp reached at least zero ;) what did we do instead? we cuddled up, boiled water for tea, made a fire, and watched breaking bad. and not just a little breaking bad- we watched 9 episodes! i don't think i have ever watched so much television in my life. i am slightly proud ;)

how was your weekend?

thankful for octobers

10.06.2013

how in the world is it already sunday night? it was one of those weekends where october never felt better. it was cuddly enough to wear sweaters, but warm enough to still go out and not feel frozen. this morning i woke up, cracked open the screen door and let that glorious fall breeze in. "i'm so glad i live in a world where there are octobers"

to complete this drizzly fall day, i baked some goodies and made home made soup. then ran and got a pumpkin spice latte (first of the year!) i also made squash for the first time on friday. i am amazed at how easy home made soup and squash were to make, for some reason i was intimated to try and cook both of these things, now they will be in my rotating favorites for the season. guess it pays to dare and try new things!

hope you had a lovely fall weekend!

life lately...

10.03.2013

life lately via chad and i's iphone/instagram

1&2// not like i need an excuse to drink coffee, but fall does make a lovely time for drinking coffee

3&4// little babe keeps saying "uh oh" it is too funny

5// three things about this photos, the first there has been awesome weather lately... i cannot get enough of theses beautiful fall days. second thing, i love having nanny play dates. it is so fun to see the kids interact with one another  (plus they happen to be so dang cute). third thing, i love having a baby on my hip. for now i am very happy it is not my baby, but regardless. i love it.

6// chad and i have been going on lots of hikes lately. the trees are so beautiful. we are lucky to live within five minutes to a state park, and have been spending several evenings a week out there

other things going on lately...

chad and i are planning a few road trips that we will be taking the last few weekends in october, i am beyond excited. we will be heading to nashville and chicago! i have never been to nashville, but have always heard such great things. cannot wait to go check it out. any blogging friends that live in either of those places?

i am in a reading dud, its weird. i haven't been motivated to read at all... but i am not quite sure how i am spending my free time... but i want to get back in. maybe i need a new read so if you have a recommendation... send it my way ;)

what have you been up to lately?

ps do you use instagram? i would love to be friends!

a day in the life of me

9.26.2013

a walk through of what my day to day life looks like:

AM

5:15- first alarm goes off
5:30- get out of bed, brush my teeth, put make up on, shower if we are lucky. sometime if i don't have to be at work until later i sneak in a run.
5:45-  "the cooking hour" make chad and i's lunchs, brew coffee (usually chad does this), blend our breakfast smoothie
6:15- enjoy smoothie, drink my coffee, read my daily devotional, get ready for work
6:25- off to work. usually listen to an audio book in the car or classical music, i don't like loud music right away in the morning for some reason.
7:00- arrive at work, feed little baby, get her dressed
8:00- play, read, sing with baby
9:00- get ready to go on the morning walk with baby
10:00- play at the park with baby
10:30- go on adventure with baby, something among the lines of story time, the zoo, library, play dates, and so forth

PM

12:00- come home, feed babe lunch and put her down for a nap
12:45- break time! eat my lunch, usually vegetable heavy and always contains at least one piece of extra dark chocolate.
1:15- catch up on emails, read some blogs, maybe do a post, then start my homework. try and concentrate on homework until baby wakes up.
3:30- play with baby part two.
5:30- head home, try to dodge traffic by running to the grocery store to pick up anything that is needed for dinner, or run to target. sometimes stop at a coffee shop to unwind from the day
6:15- arrive home, start prepping dinner, sometime go on a quick run, make dinner

oh that thing called love

9.23.2013

i have to say, i love living life with this guy and i love him more everyday. the other day i found an article circulating an article circulating around the internet  called "i didn't love my wife when i married her", have you read it? it basically talked about how when you first are in a relationship you think that you love someone, based on the way you "feel" but true love doesn't come for several more years. when that feeling may or may not be there, but your love then is a choice. i read this and thought about how true it is. love is such a complex thing. i think that society puts these notions in our head that love is a feeling, that it fades, and when it fades it s a bad thing. but it is so much more then that. my favorite line from the article simple states it perfectly, "love isn’t an emotion or even a noun. it’s a verb. better defined as giving. as putting someone else’s needs above your own"i can't say i am an expert but in the six years chad and i have been together, i have learned so much about love and what it entitles. the more you love, the more selfless you become. it is a humbling thing. i think that this article addresses several things that are not talked about everyday, but that are critical thing for relationships to be successful. and truly, i am so exited to see how our relationship and love grows in the next several years.

have you read the article? what did you think?

prints for my kitchen

9.20.2013

i just adore these city prints from laure amiss. aren't they so fun? i think they would look great in a kitchen (and they would go so well with my fiesta wear dishes!)  i just ordered the one on the right but don't have the perfect place for it yet. but i am sure i will find one soon.

what are your favorite things to buy on etsy?

life lately via chad and i's iphone/instagram

this "lately" post is a quieter one because i accidentally used some of my photos i posted on instagram for another post, oops ;)

anyway, these photos were taken last saturday when we went to brunch and the farmers market in st. paul. if there was a way to scream "i love you" it would be to go get breakfast. i love breakfast. maybe it is because i am a morning person but, i always crave it. chad on the other hand, he isn't a huge fan. luckily he still takes me out;)

other things going on lately...

we have had tacos 3 times this past week, i guess we are on a taco kick ;)

i finally used my ice cream maker and whipped up some peach-strawberry ice cream. it is delicious and now i think why did i wait until september to use my ice cream maker, silly me.

chad and i are trying to start a netflex series. if you know anything about chad and i it is that we watch no tv. none. just football and hockey. but with the change in seasons we thought it may be fun to start a show, so last night that is exactly what we did. breaking bad. i don't know how long it will last... but i had to put it out there, we are watching a show! we are kinda cool, ha!

if you wanted to know, 6... or 20 things about us

8.21.2013

i am loving the buzz of everyone posting the "six things about me". and then there was the buzz on instagram of the "20 things about me". because i felt like i wanted to play both games that i was tagged for but didn't want to come up with 26 things, i combined the two and have come up with twenty things about us  (can i do that? because i am.) i tried doing just me, but i felt like it was more fun to share about us.

so thanks to laurieambershio  and the friends on instagram for tagging. here are twenty things about us.

20 things about us.

1. she wears denim shirts way too often. or denim dresses.  he loves raw denim jeans. we are denim lovers.
2. we both were born and raise here in minnesota, and have never left. he talks about leaving. she isn't sure.
3. we have become more city people vs. suburb people
4. we both attended college in minneapolis and studied very different things. anthropology and graphic design.
5. she loves to bake, and he loves to eat the baked goods
6. when she comes home from work she wants ice cream, he wants a beer
7. if she could, she would love to go out to coffee with jane austen, and he would choose
8. every day starts with some type of coffee. either espresso, or coffee via chemex. and in the summer we always have coldpress (iced coffee) in the fridge
9. we are excellent travelers. and love doing it together
10.... and are already starting to plan our next big trip, italy 2014!
11.  she goes for dark chocolate, he goes for starburst
12. she tends to spill everythinghe never spills
13. he proposed at the family cabin while they were fishing. before that weekend she had never ever caught a fish.
14. she reads a book every night before bed and he reads on the ipad
15. sometimes she feels like her life is a fairy tail, especially when he sings along to a country love song
16. he would eat frozen jack's pizza everyday for the rest of his life if she let him
17.  she loves all of the seasons. he loves all of the seasons except winter.
18.  we collect old coffee tins. and postcards of each place we travel to.
19. she always looses her phone places. and forgets to check it. he always finds her phones, and checks his constantly
20. our first date was at a park under the stars.

so who wants to play along, either for the six things or the twenty things.

my questions/suggestions/am interested in hearing:
what is your go to outfit
if you could go out to coffee with anyone, past or present, who would it be
what is one dream for your future
where did you meet your boyfriend/fiance/husband
do you believe in love at first sight
what do you want to be when you "grow up"
do you have the names of your future kids picked out
why did you start blogging
what is one food you could not live with out
when was your first kiss

i tag devinkate, and jasmine, and anyone else join along!

my life lately via chad and i's iphone/instagram

1&2//  we went to the warby parker event last thursday in minneapolis. it was a great time eating, drinking, and trying on glasses. after leaving it made me want to have glasses that i had to wear all of the time, i know that is a little crazy but i only have reading glasses. and sometimes i think "if only i could wear my glasses all of the time", those little guys add so much character to an outfit. if you are in the minneapolis area check out the warby parker bus, it will be traveling around the city for a little while longer.
3/ surprise! i am polish. last weekend my sister, mom, grandma and i headed down to the polish fest where we could indugle in polish food, music, and pottery. it is a little tradition that we have every year. and i am always wanting to get some delicious polish food in my belly. 4/ always have got to have a baby photo around. i mean how can you resist ;)

5/ pride and prejudice was great. i have read the novel several times but somehow had 1, never seen the play and 2, never seen the movie! where have i been?? well the play was great. now i  have just got to watch the movie, and while i am at it, re-read the book :)  i had a great time going with some of my lovely friends to the play, and there will be some more photos later on 6/ my beautiful sister. this was in the yellow room at the guthrie theatre, it was sunset so all of the colors looked so sweet, and this photo actually doesn't have any editing to it, isn't that amazing!

other things going on lately.

just a few words on this piece this week. but i have just been typing away
and then in my spare time, i want to read because i have hardly read at all this week. it makes me so sad. but in a few more days i will be free and can read all i want for two whole weeks. then back to school. :)

also i am really loving instagram. whoever created it was genius, i love seeing peoples lives through their photos and it is so fun to follow along. do you have instagram! i would love to take a peak in your life ;)

life lately

8.08.2013

life lately according to chad and i's iphone/instagram feeds. just a warning, it has been a pretty slow week. :)

1-3// we went up to the cabin this weekend with a group of our friends. it was so nice to get away, be with friends and have a good time.didn't get a whole lot of shots of the group, because we were not really engaging in technology while we were up there. its nice to get away.

4// my lunch break needs, boots pelligreno, and snacks 5// what my mornings look like 6// the best road trip snack

other things going on lately...

my sisters are home my sisters are home. (remember how my dad and sister were biking across the usa, you know 3,400 miles, they finished! and my other sister was just on vaca) let me tell you, i am at so much more peace. my sisters truly do complete me and i feel so weird when they are not around. we are planning on having lots of sister time over the next few weeks before laurel goes back to school in colorado

also, while we were up at the cabin i caused a little accident where i had the four wheeler flip over ontop of my friend kelly and i. luckily we just got a little banged up but nothing serious happened. however this did cause some swelling/bruising, especially on my calf. so i have been limping around town. hopefully it will heal up soon!

life lately according to chad and i's iphones/instagram feed

1// baby is loving my keys lately. she cannot stop playing with them, good thing she is so cute
2// chad and i up in the north shore
3//  missing my friend rachel... she is one of my dearest friends but lives in florida. long distance friendships are hard. and i wish we could teleport instantly whenever you would need some girl time.
4// mambas. who thought these things were SO good. i always buy fruity candy for chad but decided to taste some of his. and i like the mambas. don't tell chad but over the past week i have eaten them all- oops!
5// another snap shot from our trip up at the north shore
6// sometimes when i nanny i feel like i am a mom. so proud of a little one and you get to see how  they grow and develop. i feel so blessed to be  a nanny and to have an insight on what parenting will look like. and though we are not planning to have our own children anytime soon, i am excited to be a mom- in about five years :)
7// sunny skies in duluth

other things that have been going on lately:

i decided to remix my lately photos. instead of doing them side by side i decided to make a little arrangement out of them. what do we think? stick with this way or go back to the old way?

and remember last week how i was a night owl. this week it is the complete opposite. 9:15 and i am out cold. maybe it is because chad has been gone the last few nights? but either way. i am thinking about that bed all day long. i kept thinking it felt like i had eaten gluten but i couldn't think of what it could be. until today... mambas contain wheat. well that explains everything and  guess i won't be stealing chads candy again ;)

also we got some amazing fudge while we were on vacation. we got maple bacon (amazing- taste like frosting) and salted caramel (classic heather) it is so tasty. they even mail out their fudge, if a place mails out their fudge you know it is going to be good. now if i could only remember the name of the place so all of you could order some...

if you want to keep up with our adventures, follow us on instagram:

life lately according to chad and i's iphones/instagram
1// love this lady. so thankful to have met her in college!2// heck this cutie out! he is only five weeks old. such a precious little life. 3// i finally got my hot soup i wanted!!! yay, have you ever had the veggie pesto soup from panera? it is my favorite but is only served monday, wednesday, and friday so you have to be strategic when you go! 4// i have been wearing my hair in a little side bun everyday this week. i don't know where this little idea came from.. but i is becoming an addicting thing.
6// baby and i played piano in the park.. more on this in a later post! 7-10// chad was gone over the weekend but he came home sunday afternoon. and it was soo nice to have him home again. we celebrated (because don't you too celebrate all of the little things in life? ;) ) by going and getting a double espresso from dogwood (which is amazing and delicious if you are in the minneapolis area) and walked around a lake. simple lovely summer date.

life lately: summer heat

7.18.2013

life lately via chad and i's iphone/instagram
1// baby and i went to the walker, a great museum in the minneapolis area! they have a great sculpture garden with lots of life sized pieces of art. this cherry on the spoon is a great local classic! the little baby loves going here. it is her favorite art museum 2// look at her cute little blue eyes 3// hot hot days around here! meaning more time beach side. we are experiencing the heat wave that a lot of midwest/ east coast people have. yesterday i passed an office building that said 97! and that isn't factoring in the humidity factor either. needless to say, lots of showers. and water. 4// lake nokomis, that is the closest minneapolis lake to chad and i, we go there often if we feel like doing a quick lap around the lake. then we usually stop and get some gelato at a local shop around there!

other things that have been going on lately:

it is still busy around here. i feel like my head is spinning. not to mention i haven't been sleeping well, which is never a problem for me lately?

also with all of this hot heat, i am craving more hot things? ironic right? i want hot mochas, hot soup... someone please tell me i am normal ( i know i am not, this is a very weird and abnormal thing) but, oh well. i have had a hot cappuccino the other day and it was delightful. i didn't care that it was 95 degrees out... now only if i could get some soup ;)

1 & 2// we went down to our dear friends, our former youth pastors in northfield a few weeks ago. we had such a blast hanging out and spending time with their family who we have grown close to over the past several years. this little lady, sally was the flower girl in our wedding and is just a gem! 3 &4// chad and i riding in our friends jeep with the top down. it was like a movie, a perfect summer night!
5// more chinese fire balloons, they are so fun! 6// baby at the lake. i think she already loves lakes as much as i do :) 7// dinner at brits pub for my dear friend kelly! i got this amazing pita wrap thing that somehow doesn't contain gluten. yum! 8// kel and i on her birthday. we have been friends for over ten years!
9// chad and i on a boat, what else is new ;) 10// if you are going to be at a lake, you gotta have berries! 11// isn't minneapolis just beautiful? 12// my sister laurel, who is biking across the country, was in minnesota over the 4th. so we naturally had to have a little sister time.  i miss her so much and cannot wait until she is home again!
13// my lover and i 14// plains of northern minnesota 15// soy beans 16// my favorite desert.... especially in the summer

other things that have been going on lately:

i recently started a new job at a local university as a research aid. i am loving it but am feeling a little overwhelmed. i am still nannying but decreased my hours. so to say it simply, i have been keeping myself pretty busy this summer with the two jobs while attending school and trying to be a wife/good family member/ and friend. i love it, but i just don't feel like i have enough time in the day. life is too short.

i am also on a strawberry kick. i feel like i am buying cartons like they are going out of business. they are just so so fresh right now i cant contain myself. good thing they are pretty reasonably priced right now!

life lately .. lots of babies

6.20.2013

my life lately via chad and i's iphone/instagram feed.

hate to say it but not a whole lot went on this week... however. the majority of this past week was spent with children... so the baby pictures are going to be a little high. but they are so cute to look at i am sure no one will mind ;)

1// my sister rosie and i did a double date nanny date. it was really fun. and she is such a fashionista 2// me with the babes. i love them so much 3// big eyed babies 4// the cutest little man

5// picked up some beans from my favorite minneapolis coffee joint, dogwood. so so good 6// happy fathers day to the best guy around... i miss you and am so thankful to have such a great role model in my life (i am the on the left. lets hope my looks have gotten better ;) 7// started juicing again! this juice has celery, carrots, apples, and lemon. a tangy treat! 8// through the window...

other things going on lately. i want a bird. i don't know where this came from but all of a sudden i have this great idea that i want a cute little bird as a pet. they aren't too much work like a dog right?! they would live in our little kitchen area and sing songs to us every morning. we would be the best of buds and i would feed her fresh fruit in the morning. i have already picked up their name, peaches. now lets see if we can get the idea past chad. ;)

sometime i don't think i've grown up. i love 'playing outside'. i think i enjoy popsicles more then the average adult, and i somehow get food all over my face when i eat. ontop of all of these things, i love the zoo a whole lot. maybe this is i am a nanny during grad school, it's the perfect thing to keep me young ;). the other day the babes and i decided to head over the mn zoo, and man oh man did we love it! the little one is getting all into animals now and is starting to mimic animal sounds. she went berserk  over the monkeys and penguins. it was so cute. i love when kids get to be this age because they develop such personality!
** the only problem when the little one can crawl, they have a mind of their own on what direction to take! and it is hard to keep up! ontop of this, she is turning into a little monkey, and little monkeys are hard to hold onto! especially when they see other animals around. ps. i love my new salt waters so much (thanks again chad!)**
**the grizzle bears in the russian coast exhibit. this is one of my favorite ones, its newer and is done so well!**

if i could, i probably would go to the zoo everyday. but because i like to think i am slightly normal i don't go everyday... maybe just a few times a month ;)

what is one of your favorite "childish" things to do?
