little moments of being a nanny

2.12.2013

i love being a nanny. it is the greatest job out there. you get to take care of cute little kids that basically become yours with the amount of time that you spend with them, and still get your nights and weekends free! best of both worlds people. as i have been with my current nanny family for a while now, there has been some employment changes and i am going to have to look for a new job.

it is just tough. i love the girls i nanny for. they are such a big part of my life. when you are a nanny the kids kinda become the center for your world. and i cannot tell you how many times chad has to listen to stories about the little ones i nanny. or my sisters.. or those times when i am out and about in public and think of all of these cute little stories that happened during the day and tell random people "oh my nanny kids...."

i love my job. i love being a nanny. you get paid to do crafts, go to the zoo, seek out museums, and you naturally have someone to spilt a cookie with (there are very few times when the little ones don't want cookies!) you become a teacher, a leader, a lover, in a whole new way.
and now i understand (half way) why mothers love being mothers.
working with children is so rewarding and i am so blessed to call it my full time job.

but please be saying some prayers for me as i am in transition of looking for a new job. it is going to be difficult finding a new family that i feel so connected with and will be even harder to leave my current family. thanks!

  2. I know how you feel! You stop working with a family and you still have that connection and miss the kids, but you don't get to see them anymore..it's sad! Hope you find another job that you enjoy! :)

  3. i could not agree more. It really is the best job out there. It is difficult leaving the families though... The kids will truly always have a place in your heart. There is one family that moved away two years ago and I still talk about the little boy!! Goodluck with the search. I am sure you will find a family that is the perfect fit!

  4. Oh goodness, I can relate to very well. I was a nanny for a family for 7 straight years (and I still keep in touch with them so now I've known them for 9 years). That family was my second family, hands down. I love those kids! Moving onto a new job and a new part of life is so hard but I'm sure you'll find another place to be connected. Praying the transition is smooth.
ps: stay in touch with them cause they'll remember you if you do! :)

  6. Jon filled me in about your situation after talking with you on Monday. I feel terrible you are in this position, but God definitely had reasons for why all of this has transpired, and He will reward you for your faith and trust in him. Father, I pray for Heather, that she would open her heart to the plans you have in store for her. That You would guide her in the path you have set, and fulfill her heart's desires. You know her, far deeper and more thorough than we could possibly comprehend, and we have complete trust in that you will provide for her and sustain her through this process. :)

Have you been on Care.com at all? That is where I connected with my nanny family, and it was the best tool. There are so many wonderful families on there that are searching for the perfect nanny like you! I suggest creating a profile there, and searching around! I'll be praying for you!

    1. Sunny! Thank you so much for this encouraging comment. It truly means a lot. I have recently started a care.com account and am now having a lot of luck! I had a couple of interviews yesterday and it is looking up. I interviewed for this one position in Edina that I would LOVE to get and I hope that it works out ( I am suppose to hear early next week!) Thanks again for your encouragement and support!

  7. I used to be a nanny as well - I did it for about 4 years. It was such a rewarding, challenging, life changing job. And I don't think people understand that unless they've been there. I'm glad to have experienced it for the time I did - however, I don't think I could do it again. I wasn't cut out for it to be a lifelong thing. But I greatly admire those selfless enough to do as their career. I hope you find something soon... I'm sure the perfect job is right around the corner. They always show up when you least expect it!
