my favorite little things

4.10.2013

if you are like me, you never know what to do with your hair. i always try mixing it up with different hair styles, or different parts, but i am not very "hair inclined" making this a little difficult for me. however i have found that by using some hair accessories my hair looks like it has a new look, when i have hardly changed anything at all!

with that... here are a few of my favorite hair accessories.

**the head wrap**

this is my ultimate favorite hair accessory. it makes all bad hair days better. i use old bandanas, scarves, or in this case the cutest hair wrap from my from shio. check out her etsy shop if you are wanting one of these cute head wraps!

**the flower pin**

a flower clip makes a simple hair do a little cuter and are a way to add a little color. they are relative inexpensive. this one is from target in the kids section (they always have the best clips!). i always put these on the side of my head.

**the gold side clip**

and finally, probably the hair accessory i use the most, the gold clip. i love these little clips. they are so practical, helping the hair stay out of your face for a little and add a little glam to your outfit. this particular clip is from goody, and comes in a variety pack.

what types of hair accessories do you use? i would love to exchange ideas!

nuts about oats

4.09.2013

breakfast is a pretty big deal at our house. there is nothing better then walking up on saturday morning, and making a delicious meal. however during the week it can be tough trying to figure out what to make in the mornings that won't have you hungry by 10 am. solution! oatmeal. oatmeal is a quick meal that is good for you. it fills you up, is full of fiber, and helps regulate your digestive system.

so i thought i would share some of my favorite oatmeal recipes.

grandma's oatmeal

**this recipe is great for a saturday morning brunch, a little sweet, makes a fair amount, and it is a tasty way to start your morning!**

1 cup old fashioned oats
2 1/3 cups water
pinch of salt
1 medium apple coarsely grated
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
1/3 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon butter

serves 2-3

1. combine oatmeal, water, and salt in a sauce pan, bring to a boil.
2. add grated apple and lemon juice, cook for about five minutes, stirring occasionally
3. add the milk and butter. stir well and cook for one minute. serve immediately.

chilled oatmeal
**this oatmeal recipe is my favorite for busy mornings, prep the night before and you will have breakfast all ready to go!**

2/3 cup milk (of your choice)
1/2 cup old fashioned oats
1/2 cup yogurt (i use plain, but i have heard of people using vanilla)
pinch of cinnamon

1. combine all ingredients, place into jar and refrigerate overnight (or a minimum of 3-4 hours)
2. top with the fruit of your choice

what are your favorite ways to eat oatmeal?

the museum with baby

4.08.2013

if you had to ask me what some of my favorite things to do are, one of the top five would be museums. i love them. lucky minneapolis is filled with awesome museums that i am able to venture to.

with nannying i have found that museums are a great educational tool for children. when you bring children to a museum they are exposed to new discoveries and encourages their exploration, not to mention is a great way to get out of the house and expose them to new things and people.

so because of my love of museums i always bring my little nanny baby to new ones. the other day we went to the walker, a modern art museum located in minneapolis.

**she loved walking around seeing all of the bright colors! **

**checking out all of the exhibits**

we ended our little trip to the museum by moving outdoors to the sculpture garden and doing some walking around the neighborhood.

** i love colored accents on buildings, especially doors! **

and it was a successful little day trip. the little girl loved seeing everything and got so excited in certain exhibits. it is crazy to think that even as little people we get excited when we see new things that we are attracted to. i just loved it!

what types of things do you like to do in your spare time? are you a museum junkie like me ;)?
